Internship Bioinformatics
We are VitroScan, a biotech start-up developing a new diagnostic method for cancer patients to give them the best available treatment. Our technology uses 3D microscopy, which generates lots of images (think: ~300 Gb raw data weekly). Currently we’re processing these with a traditional computer vision pipeline, but we think (know) that deep learning-based methods can do this more efficiently and reliably. Therefore we are looking for a master’s student to develop one or more deep learning models to analyse our images.
What we offer:
-
Lots of data with ground truth labels (from our current pipeline)
-
Generous GPU cloud budget for you to do your deep learning work
-
Two bioinformaticians with image analysis and DL experience to help you succeed
-
Using your DL skills for a good purpose: better treatments for cancer patients
-
A start-up environment at the intersection of academia and industry
-
Good lunch discussions and monthly Thursday borrels!
Project overview:
-
We expect you to develop a deep learning model, using python and pytorch.
-
We challenge you to think about how the model would be used in production (monitoring, data drift, pathological cases, workflow integration)
-
Your project will be in close collaboration with the team’s biologists
-
For this, we are looking for an internship of minimum 6 months, no shorter.
-
We are flexible in start date
What we are looking for:
-
Top-notch student: Resourceful and driven to solve problems
-
Master student in the field of biology, bioinformatics or computer science
-
Demonstrable experience with computer vision problems and/or deep learning on images. Can be a previous internship / side job, a Kaggle project or GitHub repo.
-
Interest in biology and coding
