Willemijn Vader, PhD - CEO

Willemijn is a seasoned entrepreneur devoted to turning breakthrough solutions into market‑ready products. With a Ph.D. in immunology from LUMC and 13 years at Sanofi, she brings over 20 years of oncology expertise. Since the founding of VitroScan in 2016, she has mobilized medical‑partner collaborations, closed multiple funding rounds, delivered solid proof‑of‑concept data, and built grant consortia to secure financing, all driven by a personal commitment to improve treatment efficacy and patients’ quality of life. Outside the office, Willemijn’s energy extends to commuting by bike and exploring great natural landscapes on hikes.

Donny van der Meer, PhD – Head of Bioinformatics

Donny is leading VitroScan’s bioinformatics and data science team. His entrepreneurial background is instrumental to the development of our solutions towards customers. Donny is passionate about leveraging the full potential of the image-based analysis platform to translate our data into clinically meaningful results. From his previous role as software developer at the Sanger Institute he has mastered the full process of scientific software development. His skills to clearly explain complex data solutions support efficient development and validation of our services. 

Esmee Koedoot, PhD – Head of Cancer Biology

Esmee is leading VitroScan’s Scientific Cancer Biology Team. She is a dedicated scientist aiming to effectively apply innovative strategies to improve patient wellbeing and treatment outcome. Esmee obtained her PhD in breast cancer research and acquired a lot of experience in amongst others organoid 3D cultures, quality control, assay development and high-throughput screening by working at HUB Organoids and Charles River Laboratories. Esmee is passionate to use her problem-solving and analytical capabilities to extend and elevate VitroScan’s assays to the next level. Together with the team, she aims to make optimal use of every patient sample and efficiently deliver high quality data with the ultimate goal to make the assay widely available for cancer patients, doctors and drug developers.

Timothy Sijsenaar, MSc - Associate Scientist

As associate scientist, Timothy ensures that patient samples are efficiently processed and high quality data is generated from the laboratory. Timothy background consists of a masters degree in Biopharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University before joining VitroScan to further develop expertise in the field of oncology. He is dedicated to continuously building on the available models so as to provide precision guidance for patient treatment.
