Developing solutions for cancer patients

VitroScan develops ex vivo tumor testing to support better informed treatment decisions for cancer patients. We collaborate with clinical experts to validate and implement our solutions in clinical trials.

We aim to provide treatment decision support for doctors and cancer patients to improve treatment success, prevent unnecessary side effects and reduce the socioeconomic burden of the disease.

How does it work?

Patients are asked to participate in a clinical trial by their doctor. If a patient consents, left over fresh tumor tissue is collected from routine diagnostic procedures and transported to VitroScan in Leiden.

Upon arrival in the laboratory the tissue is processed, seeded into assay plates, and exposed with standard of care and novel drugs. After a few days the plates are imaged, analysed and the sensitivity of the tumor tissue to the different drugs is quantified. At this stage in development the results are used to validate the testing, and reports are not yet used for guiding treatment decisions.

Clinical trial program

VitroScan’s Predictive Tumor Testing Platform is in clinical development for multiple solid tumors. We closely collaborate with expert clinicians, pathologists, and leading cancer centers to establish the value of our tumor testing services for patients, doctors, and the health care system.

VitroScan is performing correlation studies to train algorithms and prediction models and connect the results to clinical standards. For ovarian, lung and bladder cancer established correlation have been established for chemo-, targeted, and immunotherapies. Data are presented at  conferences and will be published in scientific journals.

Closer to the clinic

VitroScan offers near clinical testing, capturing responses to drugs in the tumors native micro environment. Standardized procedures and high quality standards, lead to reproducible and reliable outcomes.
